ALTHOUGH the extent of Bede’s knowledge of Greek has never been carefully investigated, the opinion that it was considerable, especially toward the end of his life, is widespread. This opinion is founded in large measure on the Retractatio of his earlier Expositio Actuum Apostolorum.
